Giro d’Italia stops to Asiago

The twentieth stage of the Giro d’Italia will arrive in Asiago: all ready, then, on May 27th, to go down the streets to greet cyclists who will challenge in what will perhaps be the most important moment of the whole competition, that will decide the final outcome: it is almost certain that whoever wears the pink jersey on the Plateau will be the one who, the next day, at the end of Monza-Milan leg, will be crowned as the winner.
This is not the first time that the Giro d’Italia passes through Asiago: there have been 4 stages like this in the past. The first one in 1930, leaving Rovigo: and won Antonio Pesenti. This is a challenging course, that goes through the whole Veneto region: the intent of the organizers of the Giro was to involve as many places as possible to celebrate with a great party the 100th edition.
190 kilometers, departing from Pordenone and approaching Veneto from Conegliano. The cyclists will cross the magnificent slopes of the Prosecco hills, in the direction of Feltre, in Belluno province, then attack the climb to Monte Grappa, from Caupo: in 24 kilometers it will rise to almost 1300 meters, all on narrow road. The top was conquered by Nairo Quintana in 2014 and by Ivan Basso in 2010: who knows who will be the winner this year. From Cima Grappa a thrilling descent to Campese (138 meters), to then climb up again to the 1,086 meters of the last Mountain Grand Prix in Foza: 14 kilometers not impossible, but tiring.
Finally, Asiago, where the stage will end under the Leiten Military Shrine: a tribute to the fallen, the arrival at the old station, in Garibaldi Avenue, and then, the enthusiasm of the crowd, that will for the 5th time embrace the Bigs of the cycling.
Bigs to which Rossi d’Asiago has always been close to: we remember only the 16th Cycling Tour of Veneto, the Kranebet Grand Prix of the Mountain, set by the Distilleria Fratelli Rossi di Asiago. On August 31, 1947, in Vezzena, to cut the finish line was the great Fausto Coppi.
